Description
This is a small, one and a half storey farm house, likely dating from the 1860s, situated on a slight rise to the east of Ballyglighorn Road, approximately two miles southeast of Comber. The front (west) facade is symmetrical, featuring a central door with sidelights, all now fitted with PVC frames. Single windows flank the door, also with PVC frames. All window cills are modern, slim concrete. The north gable has a ground floor window to the left and two upper level windows. The south gable has two similar upper level windows and 'French doors' on the ground floor to the right. A large, full-height gabled return has recently been added to the rear, together with a small, single-storey, flat-roofed section to the south, featuring various sized windows and a door. The entire facade is finished with rough cast rendering, moulded quoins, and a plain render base, all recently added. The main roof is gabled, covered in natural slate, with a slight overhang and plain barge boards. Two concrete brick chimney stacks are present; rainwater goods are PVC. The building was not shown on Ordnance Survey maps of 1834 or 1858. A photograph from 1973 shows a symmetrical facade with curved heads to the front sash windows and sidelights to the doorway. Although the current owner recalls a date of 1818 inscribed on a wall, the house's construction likely postdates 1860.
