World War II Observation post, Ballyrogan Td., [near Newtownards], Co. Down, BT23

This is a World War II observation post located in the townland of Ballyrogan, near Newtownards, County Down. Constructed sometime between 1940 and 1959, it consists of an access shaft and three underground chambers.

The access shaft is approximately one meter square and leads to a small lobby, roughly one meter square. Adjacent to the lobby is a room measuring approximately one meter by two meters, potentially a toilet. A larger room, possibly intended as sleeping quarters, measures approximately five meters by four meters. Two square ventilator shafts, each approximately 0.75 meters square, rise just under one meter above ground level.

The post is now derelict and neglected, but structurally it remains largely intact. It was originally intended as a lookout post to guard the southern approaches to Belfast.
