Arlyn, Craigstown Road, Ballygrooby, Randalstown, Antrim, Co Antrim

Arlyn is a former thatched cottage located on Craigstown Road, Ballygrooby, near Randalstown, County Antrim. It is believed to have been constructed between 1820 and 1839 and appears on the Ordnance Survey map of 1829. Originally described in a 1971 survey as a thatched cottage with harled and colour-washed walls, sash windows with cross astragals, a panelled entrance door flanked by four-pane sidelights, and a single brick chimney stack, the cottage is now a ruin in a collapsed state. There is no roof, and only portions of the rubble stone walls remain, heavily overgrown and surrounded by vegetation, making access difficult. Whitened rubble stone outbuildings with modern corrugated iron roofs are present but are not of special interest. The cottage was condemned as unfit for habitation in 1975 and subsequently abandoned, leading to its current derelict condition. It stands in a rural area facing the main road. The building was originally a thatched house and was privately owned; it was delisted on 19 December 1985.
