Donegore Footbridge over M2 Motorway, Donegore Hill and Loughanmore Road, Donegore, Co Antrim

This is a 20th-century pedestrian bridge built around 1967-8 to span the M2 motorway, connecting Donegore with Loughanmore. The bridge, constructed of reinforced concrete, was designed in a modern style, featuring board-marked surfaces on the concrete and plain steel railings. It gracefully arcs over the motorway from north to south before curving in a dynamic loop to descend to the lower ground on the Loughanmore side. The structure was commissioned by Major MacKean of Loughanmore House to maintain access between his estate and Donegore for farmworkers and livestock. Scott, Wilson and Kirkpatrick are believed to have been the consultant structural engineers. The bridge stands in a rural landscape, on gently sloping ground and accessed by cul-de-sacs, situated within grassy fields. It is considered to be of industrial archaeological interest, notable for its style, proportions, plan form, structural system, and its setting, and is of local historical interest due to its rarity.
