Description

Lark Hill is a two-storey, seven-bay house dating to the early Victorian period, likely constructed between 1840 and 1859. The building is of simple design and possesses limited architectural interest, having lost some of its original features over time.

The main entrance, facing north-east, features a Bangor blue slate roof laid in regular courses with terracotta ridge tiles. There are four chimneys, rendered smooth with modern pots. The walls are pebble-dashed with smooth cement rendering, featuring quoins, a plinth, and surrounds to the windows and entrance. Cast iron rainwater goods are present. The windows are rectangular timber sliding sash windows with a 6 over 6 pane configuration, without horns. The front door is glazed and panelled, recessed, framed with timber, and has blocked reveals; it is surrounded by a moulded rendered detail with a raised keystone.

The south gable is smooth cement rendered with lined and blocked details, displaying evidence of a former outbuilding removal. The rear elevation is rendered with a wet dash and has a roof of Bangor blue slates similar to the front. Windows on the rear elevation are of a similar design to the front, but include horns. One window on either side of the rear door has modern rectangular fixed lights with translucent glass. The north gable is also smooth cement rendered with lined and blocked detailing, with both PVC and cast iron downpipes.

The building is situated in a rural setting, set back from the main road within its own farmland. Access is via a long drive leading to a rear yard. Outbuildings are located to the rear and south, and a garden occupies the immediate front of the house.

The house was first named 'Lark Hill' on an Ordnance Survey map of 1857. A smaller building existed on the same site in 1832, which was likely a predecessor and subsequently enlarged or rebuilt.
