Description
Combe Thatch is a detached cottage dated 1700, with modifications made over the years. It is constructed of local stone and some cob, all rendered and colourwashed, and features a thatched roof with plain gables and brick chimney stacks. The cottage is two storeys high and has seven bays. Most of the windows are 20th century leaded casements, although some appear to be older. Notably, bay 3 has a former two-storey porch that projects from the building, featuring a coped gable. The first-floor window in this gable is an ovolo-mould window set in a wave-mould recess with a hood, although the original mullion has been removed, and there is a later window below. The gable also displays a datestone inscribed with HL/LL/1700. The east end of the house is semi-circular in plan. The interior has not been seen. Previously known as Greystones, the house is believed to have originated as a small 17th-century building that was enlarged in the early 18th century.
