Description
The gateway, located about 140 metres southeast of Wake Hill, dates from the early 19th century, specifically before 1831. It is constructed from Ham stone and designed in a Gothic Revival style. The gate piers are square, measuring approximately 550 millimetres wide and 2.25 metres high, featuring one 4-centre-arched panel on each face and topped with cornice caps and pyramid finials. Between the piers, there are nine pairs of 20th-century wrought iron gates. This gateway holds significant group value with Wake Hill and the nearby Ilminster Turnpike.
