Description
Cheddon House is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century, likely incorporating parts of an earlier dwelling, and was enlarged in the mid-19th century. The facade is made of red brick in Flemish bond on an ashlar plinth, with a rendered left return and rear. The lower part features red sandstone random rubble, and there is an independently roofed service wing with brick dressings. The roofs are covered with plain tiles and have coped verges on the main block, with brick stacks at the gable ends. The building has an F-plan layout, set gable end onto a road junction. It is two storeys high with three bays on the front and one bay on the right. The first floor has 9-pane sash windows, while the service block on the right has a 12-pane sash window. The ground floor features 12-pane sash windows, with the entrance located at the centre of the main block. This entrance has a renewed 20th-century decorative wrought iron porch with a hood and a 6-panel door that has two inserted lights. The long left return has two 18-pane sash windows. The brick facade projects about 300mm onto the left return and appears to be merely a casing, although the front wall seems quite thin. There are three gables at the rear. The interior has not been viewed.
