Description
This is a late 19th-century water tower, one of a pair, located in Rockwell Green, Wellington. The tower is constructed of red brick in English bond, with a black brick plinth and yellow brick bands, and features a steel water tower. It is a circular structure with four storeys, tapering on the ground and first floors. It includes a plinth with a stepped, sloping top, a deep stepped cornice, and carries a water tank topped with a swept conical, steel-plated roof and a weather vane.
On the north side, the tower has a round-arched, battened board door with decorative hinges. Above this are a round-arched opening with a stone sill, an oculus, and another round-arched opening, louvred. The south-east and south-west sides have similar fenestration, with round-arched openings, though the lower openings are blind. The south-west side includes a flat-arched doorway with an iron-bracketed platform, from which an inspection ladder rises up the side of the tank. The water tank has riveted panels and riveted posts supporting the roof, with a gap between the roof and the top of the tank. A measure is located on the north side of the tank.
