Description
The Old Chapel is a Congregational Chapel, now a dwelling, built around 1830. It features a rendered exterior that mimics ashlar, a double Roman tiled roof, and barge boards on the gable ends, with a brick stack on the left side. The chapel is a single cell structure facing north, with a vestry and a lean-to addition on the east front. The gable-fronted chapel has a circular window in the gable end with radiating glazing bars above a central semi-circular-headed doorway. This doorway includes a fanlight with radiating glazing bars and a 20th-century boarded door, flanked by two 20-pane cast iron fixed light windows with a 4-pane opening at the center top. To the left, there is a semi-circular headed fixed light window and a plank door in the brick lean-to addition. The right side of the building is unlit, and the rear elevation is thought to have another cast-iron fixed light window. In the early 20th century, this building was used by piece workers who mended netting produced at the nearby Perry Street textile factory.
