Description
North Lodge is a lodge for Sandhill Park Hospital, built in the early 18th century. It features a central section made of limestone ashlar with rendered wings, and has slate roofs that are concealed behind a parapet. The building is designed in the Palladian style, with a moulded cornice and a string course, as well as rendered chimneys.
The lodge is two stories tall and has a symmetrical facade with a layout of three bays, one bay, three bays, one bay, and three bays. The central bay is pedimented and has dentil moulding above a tall arched carriageway opening that projects forward. This opening is flanked by large ground floor windows and features 48-pane sash windows with heavily moulded lintels that reach up to a flat string course band that runs along the wings. There are blank panels above these windows. The centre bays of the recessed wings also project forward and contain 12-pane sash windows, except for the third bay from the right, which is blocked and painted to resemble a window. The entrance is located on the returns of the carriageway arch.
