Description

Pyrland Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, which was enlarged and refronted around 1800, with a mid-20th century addition on the facade. The building is constructed of rosy pink brick in Flemish bond, with a hipped roof made of asbestos and Welsh slate on the left side, featuring coped verges on the right and a concrete tile roof at the rear in the northeast corner. There are brick stacks on the right gable end, between the first and second bays on the right, and between the fourth and fifth bays.

The farmhouse has a T-plan layout, likely originally consisting of three cells and a cross passage entered from the north front. An agricultural building has been added to the west end, and the south facade has been refronted, all under the same roof. There is also a short parallel range at an angle with the north wing containing agricultural buildings. The structure is two storeys with an attic and has a symmetrical facade, although partly obscured by ivy at the time of the survey in April 1984.

The facade features two central hipped dormers set in the roof space, with the left end bay having a blind window opening. All windows have slightly cambered heads and include 16-pane sash windows. The ground floor left bay has a single mid-20th century hipped roof addition with a brick stack. The central entrance has a semi-circular headed door case with a fanlight that lacks glazing bars, a plank door, and a wooden trellis-work hooded porch. There is a break in the facade to the left of the entrance. The left return includes depressed arch openings leading to the agricultural end, while the rear gable end features 25 and 55-pane sash windows. The interior was not viewed.
