Description
Lottisham Manor is a manor house dating back to the 15th century, with significant alterations in the late 16th, 17th, and minor additions in the 18th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of coursed and squared lias rubble with predominantly tile roofs, a small section having double Roman tiles. The roof features coped verges with bases for finials, and three ashlar stacks with moulded caps. Originally an open hall house, it was later adapted to a three-unit and cross-passage plan, with subsequent asymmetrical wings added to create a U-shaped frontage. The house is two storeys and has an attic, with an irregular fenestration pattern of 1, 2 and 3-light stone mullioned windows, some of which have been restored; some windows contain iron casements with leaded lights and iron quadrants, and some have stopped labels. The central doorway is set within a pegged and bead moulded surround, and features a reproduction studded plank door with strap hinges. The interior face of each wing has additional windows in a matching style. The side and rear elevations are of similar appearance. Inside, features include stud and panel partitions, exposed chamfered ceiling beams with run-out stops, a framed ceiling with moulded beams enclosing six panels, two contemporary fireplaces, panelling, and a fragment of a 15th-century jointed cruck roof, spanning five bays with windbracing.
