Description

Lockyer's Cottage and Bryant's Cottage form a pair of cottages located in Bishop’s Lydeard. They date to 1632, with Lockyer's Cottage undergoing renovation in April 1983. The cottages are built of rubble with a rendered finish and have a thatched roof with double Roman tiles on a rear extension. They feature brick stacks, with an early 20th-century brick stack on the facade’s outer right bay (Bryant’s). The cottages are two storeys high and six bays wide. They have 2- and 3-light casement windows. A single-light window in the second bay from the left on the first floor has been partially blocked, and the fourth bay from the left is completely blocked. The entrance to Lockyer’s Cottage is a 20th-century door in the second bay from the left, alongside a gabled porch. A plank door is situated on the outer right. A plaque in the gable end on the right is inscribed "NB.WB 1632." The interior of Lockyer’s Cottage was not viewed, but Bryant’s Cottage contains chamfered beams with run-out stops, and a fireplace with a chamfered stone lintel.
