Description

Chantry Farmhouse is a detached building of warehouses dating to the 18th and early 19th centuries, with later modifications. Constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, it stands on a lias stone plinth and has an asbestos cement slate Mansard roof with stepped coped gables and brick end chimney stacks. The building is arranged in an 'L' shape and is two storeys high with attic space, spanning three bays. It features sash windows with 16 panes, set in plain openings with voussoired flat arches carried past the reveals. These openings have painted keystones. A central doorway is similarly framed, leading to a 20th-century four-panel door beneath a Regency-style cast-iron fanlight. Basement windows are timber casements within the plinth. A matching extension has been added to the rear of the building. The interior remains unseen. Historical records indicate that by 1838, the property was the third-largest land holding farm in Aller.
