Description
Wing House is an early 19th-century house located on Holyrood Street in Chard. The building is roughcast, likely over brick, and features a slate roof that is hipped at the front, along with a brick stack. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall. The front elevation facing Holyrood Street is blank and has panelled clasping pilasters. The left side of the house has glazing bar sash windows arranged in a two-window range. The entrance is on the right side, flanked by glazing bar sashes on the left and a two-storey outshut on the right, which includes a single-storey scullery further to the right.
Inside, the house features panelled doors and shutters, with the rear left room showcasing an enriched cornice, a black marble fireplace, and high skirtings. The garden to the southeast is enclosed by a high brick wall, which has a doorway leading onto Holyrood Street. Additionally, there is a mid-19th-century coachhouse made of limestone rubble with brick dressings, located on Mill Lane. This coachhouse has double doors leading to the right-hand room, which contains saddleracks and a stable in the centre. Historical maps from 1841 indicate that No. 23 was originally a projecting wing of No. 21.
