Description
58 and 60 Holyrood Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates back to the 16th century and was remodeled and extended at the rear in the 17th century, with alterations made around 1985. The building is roughcast, likely over limestone rubble, and features a slate roof with a crested ridge. It has an L-shaped plan with a rear left wing and stands two storeys tall, with a four-window range. The first floor has late 19th-century three- and four-light windows, while the ground floor has doors and windows from the 1980s. There is a late 19th-century moulded fascia along the guttering.
Inside, the building is noted for its stop-chamfered beams throughout, a timber-framed partition, and a four-centred arched fireplace on the first floor. The rear wing has a trenched purlin roof, and the front range features four jointed crucks, which continue into Chapter Cottage, forming a 16th-century building of five bays.
