Description

The War Memorial, located on the roadside in Stratton-on-the-Fosse, was built around 1918. It is constructed from dressed stone and designed in a 15th-century style. The memorial features an octagonal base with two steps, a lower section that has an offset square socket with corner shafts, and inscriptions inset on each face. Above this, there is a tapering square shaft with additional corner shafts, topped with an elaborate calvary that includes a figure on each face and a finial. This monument is noted for its high sculptural quality.
