Description
The boundary wall and gateway, located about 5 metres north of Ashford House, date from the 18th century. Constructed of red brick with Ham stone dressings, the wall features Flemish bond and has thin angled stone copings, standing approximately 1.5 metres high. Opposite the doorway to Ashford House, there are a pair of square plan ashlar gate piers, each about 2.5 metres high, topped with cornice caps and adorned with steps, neck, and ball finials. A 20th-century timber gate fits into a rather wide opening. This structure significantly enhances the setting of Ashford House and contributes positively to the streetscape of this small hamlet.
