Description
Number 26 on Vicarage Street is a building dating from around 1683. It is constructed of painted rubble and has a stone tiled roof. The building stands three storeys high and features two hipped dormers. There are two windows with three- and four-light stone mullioned casements, and drips above the ground floor windows. The central entrance consists of a half-glazed door with a flat hood supported by brackets. Weathered string courses are present at the second floor level and at the eaves. There is a blocked doorway to the centre right and a modern inserted doorway to the right. The rear of the building likely had wooden moulded mullions and ogee wooden lintels in the stair turret. Inside, there are two notable features: on the ground floor, a wide Tudor arch fireplace with panelled spandrels and stop-moulded surrounds, along with rough lintels. Adjacent to the rear is an oak winder stair with incised risers and painted skirting that is stepped and supports an arabesque design, also painted.
