Description

This description covers a pair of chest tombs located in the churchyard about 3 meters south of the vestry of the Church of St Michael and All Angels.

The first monument, commemorating Joseph Souer Vincent, dates from the 19th century and is made of Ham stone. It features a moulded plinth on a stepped base, with one fielded panel on each face and deep-fluted pilasters on the sides. The shallow nipped top has moulded coving with rounded leading edges. The inscription also includes a mention of Webb, who died in 1810, on the north side.

The second monument is dedicated to Elizabeth Vincent and is located about 2 meters south of the vestry door. This 18th-century tomb is also made of Ham stone and has a moulded plinth on a staff base. It features one fielded panel on each face with three-panel pilasters on the flanks, and a hipped top with moulded coving and rounded leading edges. It commemorates Elizabeth Vincent, who died in 1837, and John Vincent, who died in 1854, although it is likely a re-use of an earlier 18th-century monument.
