Description

Budleigh Farmhouse is a 16th and 17th century farmhouse located in Pitminster. It is built with a pebbledash finish over random rubble and cob, featuring ham stone mullions, coped verges, concrete pantiles, and a stone plinth to the brick stacks. The original plan consisted of two cells and a central passage, with a two-storey outshot extending from the rear, and a single-storey lean-to addition at the left gable end.

The main facade is two storeys high with three bays. It features three-light stone mullioned windows with ovolo moulding, and a four-light window on the ground floor flanking the entrance, all set under hoodmoulds. A 20th century plank door provides access. The right return has a small two-light window in the gable end, while a small two-light ground floor window serves the stairwell. There is also a two-light-mullioned window outshot, one of which has been altered.

Inside, the south gable end contains a bressure lintel over the fireplace, with a curing chamber to the left and a bread oven projecting right into the lean-to addition. The north gable end has a modern grate fireplace set into the west wall of the outshot. The roof is a jointed cruck truss structure.
