Description

This is a pair of early 19th-century houses, now used as two shops, located on the south side of High Street in Axbridge. The exterior is roughcast, with a roof of double Roman tiles and pantiles, and brick stacks. The building is two storeys high and has a three-bay facade. The first-floor windows are 16-pane sashes. The left-hand side of the ground floor originally contained a sash window, now filled with a single pane of glass, and a doorway with a 20th-century glazed door and fanlight, topped by an open pediment on pilasters. The right-hand side features a late 19th-century shopfront with a four-light window on each side of recessed glazed doors, flanked by pilasters supporting a facia board. A two-panelled door with a transom light is located to the right of the shopfront. The building’s core is likely medieval in origin.
