Description

Monkscombe House is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations in the 18th century. It is constructed of coursed and squared lias stone, with some Ham stone, and has a tile roof with coped verges and 20th-century brick stacks. The house has two storeys and a 1:3:1 bay arrangement. The left-hand wing projects forward with a front-facing gable. This wing has casement windows with glazing bars on both floors. The right-hand bays feature three-light casement windows with square-paned leaded lights, except for two single-storey canted bays on the ground floor, which have cornices and lead cappings, and sash windows with close-set glazing bars to each light. Two door openings are present: a good six-panelled door to the left, with an altered flat-roofed porch, and a plank door to the right.
