Description
Shutlers Mill, also known as North Mills, is a water-powered mill dating from the 18th century or possibly earlier, with modifications in the 19th century. The building is constructed of ham stone rubble with a corrugated iron roof, which likely replaced thatch. It is a single-storey building with a loft. The north-east elevation has two bays, featuring a plain doorway on the left, a three-light casement window to the right, and a loft doorway to the left of these. A small stairlight window is located in the north-west gable at a higher level. Much of the original machinery remains inside, particularly in the loft. Although the stream and leat are no longer visible, the mill is believed to be on the site of a mill mentioned in the Domesday Survey, and milling continued here until after the Second World War.
