Description
This building is a barn located about 100 meters southwest of the Church of St Mary. It was originally built as sawmills for the Berkley Estate in the early 18th century, with some limited modifications made in the 19th century. The northwest side features a wall made of Doulting rubble stone, with open timber posts that have been truncated and are now supported by a low rubble stone wall topped with in situ concrete coping on the southeast side. The barn is open at both ends and has a half-hipped roof covered with weatherboarding on the gables and double Roman clay tiles.
The structure consists of five bays, with sprocetted posts made from solid timber supporting "A" framed trusses that include some rudimentary windbracing. The roof has been boarded out with elm to create a floor in the loft area. There is a heavy plank and muntin screen between the third and fourth bays, along with an elm dog-leg staircase and windows in the third bay. Access to the barn is provided by a boarded door in the north gable, and there is an unglazed window in the south gable.
