Description
The Low House is a 17th-century house situated between Keld Head Farm and The Low House Farm, forming a group with the nearby Keld Head Farmhouse. The house is constructed of small, coursed stone and has a pantile roof with coped gable ends and three brick stacks. The exterior is heavily covered in ivy. It has three windows to each floor, with windows featuring wood lintels and casements with leaded lights. The ground floor has three windows and a doorway. To the left is an adjoining outbuilding with a single window and a ventilation slit above a carriage entry. The ground floor also includes two blocked openings with wood lintels, and a lower extension with ventilation openings. The rear wing has windows with wood lintels. Originally, the house was the home of the Piper family, who owned Captain Scoresby's whaling ship.
