Description
The gates to the cliff opposite the Crown Hotel were built around 1840-1850. They are made of cast iron and provide access to the path leading down to the Spa. The gates are double with spearhead rails and spearhead dog rails. The iron piers are designed to resemble a bundle of pikes, and there is an overthrow featuring scrollwork. These gates are part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 19 on the Esplanade, the Villa Esplanade Hotel, Nos 20 to 29 on the Esplanade with the Esplanade Hotel, Belmont Road, and the Prince of Wales Hotel on Prince of Wales Terrace.
