Description
This is a house, likely dating from the 17th century with alterations in the 18th century. It is constructed with some timber framing, rendered walls, and a red clay tile roof. The property has one bay at the front and three bays at the rear, with the two rear bays exhibiting timber framing and an addition made towards the road-facing side in the 18th century.
The street facade features a bowed design to the ground and first floors, with three-light sash windows incorporating glazing bars. These windows are topped by panelled entablatures and dentilled cornices, with the walling beneath the windows also bowed. A moulded eaves cornice runs along the top of the facade, complemented by a shaped kneeler and ashlar coping on the right-hand side. The roof is in two spans.
On the right return, a central recessed six-panel door is accompanied by a fanlight within panelled reveals, framed by a reeded architrave and a panelled entablature with a cornice. Contemporary casements with glazing bars are on the right-hand side and first floor, alongside an additional, larger contemporary window to the far right.
Inside, the front ground-floor room retains original late 18th-century reeded architraves with paterae to the windows, recesses, and door. Panelled doors are found throughout the house. Remnants of the original timber framing are visible in the two rear bays, although the beams are now covered by plaster. A contemporary extension to the rear is not considered to be of particular historical interest.
