Description
Upper Farm Barn, located to the southwest of the house, is a threshing barn that is now used for storage. It likely dates from the 17th century or earlier, with some later alterations. The barn is timber framed, but the external walls are now made of brick. The lower half is constructed from local narrow 18th-century red brick in two sections, while the upper part is made of 19th-century pinkish-brown brick featuring diaper-shaped vents. The roof is covered with swept French tiles. The barn consists of four bays and has an aisle on one side, with opposed wagon doors. Inside, there are three original trusses that have stout jowled posts with brick casings at the feet, arch braces, and arched tie beams. The roof structure includes principal rafters with collars and butt purlins that are tenoned into the principals.
