Description
The weir and bridge between Ripley Lakes were likely built between 1843 and 1844 for Sir William Amcotts Ingilby. Constructed from gritstone and ashlar, the weir features five tiers. The bridge has three segmental arches with rusticated voussoirs and a heavy roll moulding at the roadway level. It is adorned with a cast-iron balustrade that consists of two tiers of arcading with cinquefoil and trefoil heads, along with a circular motif at road level. This bridge serves as a carriage drive connecting the upper and lower lakes. The site is also noted in the North Yorkshire Historic Gardens Register for Ripley Castle, which is classified as Grade II.
