Description
This building, attached to the south of numbers 23 and 24 on Market Place in Ripon, appears to be mainly from the mid-19th century. However, the southern part, which includes the carriage arch, is structurally part of numbers 23 and 24 and is likely at least from the 17th century. The presence of a jettied second floor indicates that the rest of the building may also date back to the 17th century.
The ground floor is finished in modern brick, while the upper sections feature applied timber-frame and plaster. The building has four storeys, with two windows that are casements; the first-floor windows are in oriels supported by wooden brackets. There is one bay that consists of only two storeys above the carriage entrance. The interior contains fittings that are all from the mid-19th century.
