Description
This Edwardian shelter, built around 1900 and restored in the late 20th century, is located 15 metres east of the Cliff Lift in Whitby. Constructed from wood and cast iron, it features a hipped shingle roof supported by six turned wooden columns. These columns are adorned with ornate cast iron brackets and iron rosette finials, holding up a wooden panelled and boarded ceiling. The roof is clad in wooden shingles. Each column has similar curved cast iron brackets at its base, and the structure includes lower plank divisions with curved slatted benches in between. The ends of the shelter have simple projecting plank benches, which may have been added later. This shelter is one of a pair of identical structures situated on the north cliff at Whitby.
