Description
West Syke Manor is a house dating from the early 17th century, built on the foundations of an earlier timber-framed structure, with restoration work carried out in the mid-20th century. The house is constructed of coursed squared gritstone with a graduated stone slate roof. It is two storeys high and has a three-bay lobby-entry plan, with part of the upper storey set within the roof space. A 20th-century board door is located to the right of the second bay, set within a moulded quoined surround and a four-centred arched lintel. There are low, recessed, chamfered mullion windows throughout, with four and five lights, including hoodmoulds to the left of the door. A window to the right of the door has four lights and an inscription on the sill reading "JOHN BUCKIE CI”. Three three-light windows are on the first floor, with the window in the third bay having been enlarged. A shaped kneeler and raised verge are on the left side, and there is a large corniced ridge stack above the door, along with a smaller external stack to the left gable. Former outbuildings are attached to the right side and are now incorporated into the house, but are not considered to be of special interest. The interior was not inspected during a resurvey.
