Description
The boundary marker located in the center of Birdforth Bridge dates from the mid-19th century and is made of cast iron. It has a triangular section and is hollow-backed with a sloping top plate. Each side plate features a pointing hand and raised lettering, with the word 'BIRDFORTH' on the left and 'BULMER WEST' on the right. These names refer to historical divisions known as Wapentakes, which were used to organize counties; Birdforth was part of the Birdforth wapentake, while Thormanby was part of the Bulmer wapentake.
