Description

The War Memorial Cross, located to the west of St Helen's Church in Bilton in Ainsty, was erected in 1920. It is made of Portland stone and stands on a stepped base of limestone. The memorial has a square plan and features three stone steps leading to the base. The lower plinth has a chamfered and moulded base, while the upper faces display inscriptions that include the names of local individuals who lost their lives during the Great War. At the top of the memorial, there is a moulded section with a small laurel wreath on each face, and the upper cross has a square sectioned shaft that supports a figure of Christ, all topped with a gabled roof.
