Description

Weaverthorpe Station is a station building that includes a station-master's house, now functioning as a private residence. It was built in 1845 by G T Andrews for the York and North Midland Railway Company. The structure is made of mottled brick in Flemish bond, featuring a sandstone plinth and dressings, along with orange gauged brick arches and a slate roof. The building has a central-entry plan with station accommodation on the left side.

The front is two stories high with three windows. It has a four-panel front door topped with a radial fanlight, set within a pilastered doorcase that has a keyed arch and cornice. On either side of the front door, there are flat-arched recesses that contain a part-glazed panelled ticket office door on the left and a 12-pane sash window on the right. The first floor features 12-pane sashes above a sill band. All openings, except for the front door, have gauged brick arches. The eaves overhang on shaped brackets, and the roof is hipped.

The left return has two bays and includes a one-storey outbuilding at the left end, which has similar detailing to the front. The right bay projects and features a canted bay ticket window with glazing-bar sashes on the ground floor, along with a station clock to the right. There are chimney stacks at the left end and the center ridge. Inside, the ticket office fittings remain intact. Although the station is located in the parish of Sherburn, it has been known as Weaverthorpe since 1882 to prevent confusion with other Sherburn stations in the northeastern region. The station was closed to passengers in 1931.
