Description

A pair of semi-detached houses built in 1898 by George B Clegg of Morley, located on Leeds Road. The houses are constructed of coarsed stone with ashlar dressings and have a slate roof. They are two storeys in height, with three-storeyed pedimented projections. Details include bracketed eaves and cornices, and the base of the pediments is broken by a round-headed window fronted by a semi-circular balcony with an iron railing. The windows are rectangular plate glass on the ground and first floors. The doorways are round-headed with enriched pediments on brackets. No. 36 features a two-storeyed three-quarter octagon bay window with a pepperpot roof.

The interior of No. 36 contains painted decorations by students from Leeds College of Art on several doors and ceilings, along with a lincrusta dado and stained glass windows in the entrance and staircase hall. Numerous original fittings remain, including plasterwork, woodwork, tiling, and marble.
