Description
This is a dovecote located approximately 40 metres north-west of Low Hall in Brompton-by-Sawdon. It dates from the 17th century, although it may have earlier origins, and was re-roofed around 1980. The structure is built of coursed rubble limestone on a chamfered plinth, with quoins and a stone flag roof. It has a rectangular shape and features a low round-arched doorway at the front, which contains a 20th-century door. There is a continuous moulded string course below the eaves level. On the left gable, there is a chamfered mullion window with a landing platform, and there is an entrance box with a landing platform at the centre of the roof ridge. The dovecote has crow stepped gables. Inside, there are L-shaped nesting boxes extending to the left and right on alternate rows, each with a projecting landing slab.
