Description
The chest tomb of Mark Smithson is located at the base of the church tower to the south in St Andrews Churchyard, Boroughbridge, Aldborough. This tomb is made of sandstone and dates from the late 18th century. It features fluted pilasters at the corners and center of the exposed side, along with a cornice. There are two oval sunk panels that contain inscriptions commemorating Mark Smithson of Aldborough, who died in 1789 and was a benefactor of St Andrews Church, as well as his wife. The inscription for his wife is somewhat worn.
