Description

The George Hotel, formerly known as the Station Hotel, dates to the late 18th century. It is a three-storey brick building with stone rusticated quoins. The windows are double-hung sashes, those on the first floor having eaved architraves. The principal window has a segmental pediment incorporating dentils on consoles, a pulvinated frieze, and cill brackets. The ground floor has six openings, with two central doors; the left-hand door has been replaced with a window. This window is framed by stone Doric columns, a triglyph frieze, a pediment with mutules and guttae. A flight of steps with iron rails leads to the entrance.
