Description
The Old Vicarage, now a house, was built around 1855 and features snecked gritstone and ashlar with a Westmorland slate roof. It has an L-shaped plan in the Victorian Gothic style and stands two storeys tall with three bays. The entrance front faces north and includes a pointed arch with a central double board door set in a projecting two-storey buttressed porch, which has a two-light trefoil-headed window above, all under a hoodmould. To the left, there is a large external stack with a square recessed panel that has a shield in relief above a moulded first-floor string, topped with a castellated design. To the right, a bay projects forward as a three-bay service wing, featuring two-, three-, and four-light trefoil-headed windows with iron-framed casements and hoodmoulds.
The rear (garden) facade has a central glazed door flanked by narrow lights and an overlight, all under a pointed arch. The left bay protrudes and has a four-light mullion and transom window with quatrefoils in the top lights. The right bay features a canted bay window with a trefoil-headed light. On the first floor, the left and centre bays have three-light trefoil-headed mullion windows beneath steeply-pitched gables. There is a single light, trefoil-headed window in the attic on the left. A moulded string-course runs at first-floor level, and the gables have copings and crocketted gable finials. A large stack is positioned between the centre and left bays. The interior has not been inspected. Attached to the west side of the house is a courtyard that includes a coach house, stables, and a fuel store, along with a retaining wall and double gates at the front.
