Description

Old Brook House is a house dating from 1732, located on the west side of School Lane in Bellerby. It is constructed of rubble with a Welsh slate roof. The house is three storeys high and has three bays. The central doorway is distinguished by a fine doorcase featuring panelled pilasters on tall plinths with fluted capitals, and a moulded round arch with a keystone inscribed ā€œM R Pā€. The door is a six-panel design with a fanlight above. The windows originally featured flush mullions with ovolo arrises. Ground floor and first floor windows are 10-pane sashes in originally three-light surrounds. The second floor windows are side-sliding sashes in shorter, originally two-light surrounds. The building features shaped kneelers and ashlar copings. Brick end stacks are present. The interior includes three-panel doors and moulded jambs to the kitchen fireplace. Historically, the building was once an inn, known as the Farmers' Arms, and included a dance floor in a large loft accessible by old stairs.
