Description
This is a late 17th and early 18th century house, now divided into two cottages. It is constructed of whitewashed rubble with ashlar dressings, and has a stone slate roof. The house has two storeys, with a rear outshut, and six windows on the first floor. Chamfered quoins define the corners. A distinctive feature is the detailing over the doors: the door in bay 3 has a part-glazed panel within an eared architrave, decorated with a face mask and festoons on the lintel; the door in bay 6 has a part-glazed panel with pointed sections under a stone lintel. The ground-floor windows are 2-light casements with eared and shouldered architraves, panelled flush mullions, and face masks and festoons on the lintels. A moulded string course runs along the front. The first-floor windows consist of oculi in ashlar surrounds in bays 3 and 5, side-sliding sash windows in bays 1, 2 and 4, and a casement window in bay 6. Kneelers carved with grotesque heads are present, and the left end has an ashlar coping. Brick stacks are positioned between bays 1 and 2, and bays 5 and 6.
