Description
Loftus Hill is a small country house dating to the late 17th century, with alterations around 1823 and additions circa 1842, and a restoration in approximately 1990. The house is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings, all of which are rendered and painted. It has Welsh slate hipped roofs and nine brick chimney stacks. The south front features a recessed central five-window section, with a central doorway sheltered by a columned porch containing a glazed panel door and a fanlight. Flanking the central section are two glazing bar sash windows on either side, and five similar windows above. Extending to the east and west of this block are mid-19th century additions, each with a taller two-storey canted bay window with plain sashes, ashlar cill bands, and ashlar coped parapets. The interior contains three 18th-century wooden fireplaces, numerous panel doors set within moulded surrounds, shutters to most windows, and a remodelled staircase, likely of late 17th-century origin, which has bulbous balusters.
