Description

This is a farmhouse, likely dating to 1666, originally located in Bank Newton and now situated in Coniston Cold. The farmhouse is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof and quoins. The front elevation features three bays, with a two-story porch marking the entrance. The right-hand bay has been converted into a garage, accessed from the rear; however, the front facade retains its original openings. Double-chamfered stone mullion windows with five lights and hoodmoulds are present. A row of five two-light windows are on the first floor, lacking hoodmoulds. The porch has a straight-headed, chamfered doorway with a lintel inscribed with the date "1666" (though this has also been interpreted as "1606"). Above the doorway is an oversailing cyma course supporting a two-light window, a small coped gable, and a ball finial. The rear elevation includes one three-light double-chamfered window, and a rear wing featuring two small, old windows, potentially indicating a contemporary build. There are two chimney stacks, one external and with two chamfered fireplaces.
