Description
There are four slab tombstones arranged in a line, located approximately five metres south of the south-west corner of the south aisle of the Church of St John the Baptist. These tombstones date from the early to late 18th century and are made of ashlar sandstone.
The first stone is small, featuring a wave-moulded top and a worn inscription commemorating Anthony Guy, likely from the early 18th century. The second stone is large, with an elaborately scroll-moulded top adorned with paterae and fronds, commemorating Jane Wheatley of Caldwell, who died in 1799. The third stone is also large, with a triangular-shaped top that has ogee moulding, commemorating Thomas Eeles of Caldwell, who died in 1778. The fourth stone is medium-sized, featuring a scrolled top and commemorating Ann Allison and Christopher Allison, both of whom died in 1772.
