Description

The Church of Saint Wilfrid is a church dating back to the 12th century, with a nave from that period and a chancel that was altered in the 14th century. The 19th century saw the addition of a south porch and a north vestry. The building is constructed from sandstone, which is rendered, and features a stone-slate roof.

The nave includes a diagonal buttress, while the gabled porch has a chamfered pointed-arch doorway with a hoodmould. The south doorway, dating from the 12th century, is adorned with columns and cushion capitals, and features a single step arch and a board door. To the right of the porch, there are two 19th-century windows, each with two trefoil-headed lights and flat hoodmoulds.

The chancel consists of two bays and has a central buttress, with an angle buttress at the east end topped by a pinnacle. There is a 15th-century pointed-arch boarded priest's door, with a one-light chamfered window to the left and a three-light window to the right, both featuring pointed arches, chamfered surrounds, and flat hoodmoulds. The east window is decorated with three lights and reticulated tracery. At the west end, there is a 19th-century bell-cote with ashlar coping.

Inside, there is an early 15th-century effigy of a priest wearing a chasuble and holding a chalice.
