Description
This barn, located approximately 10 metres south of Firs Farm, dates from the 16th century and was formerly a chapel. It is constructed of rubblestone with ashlar dressings and features a Welsh slate roof. The building is a single storey and has quoins. The central wagon door is topped with a large stone lintel, and diagonal stone bands indicate earlier roofs. Both the left and right returns have a chamfered cusped arched window. Inside, the barn retains its original steep rafter roof, which includes collars, braces, and wall posts with corbels. Historically, this structure served as a chapel for Fountains Abbey.
