Description

A school and schoolhouse, now three dwellings, likely dating from the early 18th century and remodelled in the late 18th century, with later alterations and an extension. The building is constructed of variegated brick in Flemish bond with a stone plinth and quoins to the front, and coursed limestone rubble to the rear. It has a pantile roof and brick stacks. The design is of a central stairhall house flanked by single-cell cottages. Later rear extensions were added in the late 19th century, and a 20th-century extension is located to the left. The building is two storeys high with a seven-window front. Each house has a panelled door with a divided overlight. The central house has 4-pane sash windows throughout, with wedge lintels to the ground-floor openings. The flanking houses have 20th-century replacement windows. Coped gables and shaped kneelers are present on the central and left houses. Stack chimneys are located at the ends of the central and left houses. The 20th-century extension to the left is not of particular architectural interest. The building is included on the list for its group value.
